‘Hello, Officer’: The SFPD’s efforts to speak your language are both high-tech and low-tech

One police officer behind a foldout table at a senior center may not look like the most advanced breakthrough in community policing, but the Ingleside District — which partially encompasses Visitacion Valley and Sunnydale, neighborhoods at the southeastern fringe of the city — is one of the few stations experimenting with placing officers in communities less comfortable with visiting a police station.

Neighborhood Notes: ‘Dolores’ film screening, MAPP heads to Jardin Secreto and a bake sale for Planned Parenthood

Though there are a slew of events all over the city for Hispanic Heritage month, the main branch of the San Francisco Public Library will be hosting a free viewing of Dolores on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. in the Koret Auditorium. Dolores, a 2017 film by director and San Francisco native Peter Bratt, tells the story of activist Dolores Huerta. It originally aired on PBS.

Indoor cannabis cultivation business green-lit for Duboce warehouse

A new indoor cannabis cultivation business is slated to come to the Mission, opening across the street from Zeitgeist and SoMa West Skatepark at the site of a former aquarium shop. The project, located at 49 Duboce Ave., features 3,600 square feet for indoor growing across two floors of an industrial warehouse, and was approved at Thursday’s Planning Commission hearing.
