Most Mission residents and visitors are familiar with tacos — carnitas and al pastor (pork), carne asada (grilled beef) and pollo (chicken). But many Mission menus offer other options for more adventurous carnivores, and many of those frying up the meats say that tongue, the flank stomach muscles and head are popular. Many shops in the area serve lengua (tongue), buche (neck) and tripa (intestines), but sesos (brains) are hard to find. Mission Local finally found the light-colored, mushy brain meat at El Farolito on Mission Street.
What’s your favorite taco meat? Do you stick to the classic or opt for exotic?

Mariachi’s is THE BEST Mexican restaurant in the Mission bar none! Inexpensive, CLEAN food, and extremely nice people. I can’t believe that it is not included in your poll. Do you even live here? If you do try it or ask around and you will be surprised to learn it is many a locals favorite. peace out and enjoy!
El Mariachi on Valencia at 16th (for some reason not on the survey) has six different kinds of vegetarian tacos, for those of you who care to learn some names of vegetables in Spanish.
