Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

The city has a budget deficit, but Mayor Daniel Lurie wants to cut taxes on real estate transfers over $10 million. Lurie says giving a break to developers will aid housing productionโ€”though most of the cuts would benefit office landlords, who pay the city about $78 million a year in transfer taxes.

Tony Phillips, the man who brawled with Mayor Lurie’s security team, was arrested again yesterday for being at the corner of Larkin and Cedar. A judge had released Phillips from jail, but ordered him to stay away from the corner.

For back story, read why the judge released Phillips pending trial, concluding from videos that Lurie’s security team had assaulted him.

El Farolito, the beloved soccer team from a Mission taqueria, is going back to Sacramento tomorrow to face the team that beat them 1-0 in the third round last year. Liliana Michelena has the inside story on what to expect from the gritty team playing for higher stakes in a World Cup year.

More soon,
