Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon!

Mayor Lurie has filed to put three measures on the ballot that would remake the city charter, and Joe Eskenazi explains that this is a very big deal, indeed. Read how they would let the mayor make sweeping changes to two dozen departmentsโ€”including Public Health, Rec and Parks, and Planning.

And speaking of City Hall reform, Io Yeh Gilman reports that after a ballot measure, months of meetings and millions of dollars, San Francisco may not streamline its commissions very much after all.

The candidates for Nancy Pelosi‘s congressional seat came out to a Chinatown forum, where Taiwan was a central issue. Scott Weiner, Connie Chan, and Saikat Chakrabarti were joined by Marie Hurabiell, a former Trump appointee who said she joined the race to “give people a choice.”

Correction: I got the date wrong in Friday’s newsletter: On Thursday March 19 at 6:30PM at the Tenderloin Museum, a team of experts will sit down with Mission Local reporter Eleni Balakrishnan for a conversation on Tenderloin parks and green spaces, and how community groups have mobilized to create them. Come enjoy snacks from Cantoo, mingle, and share your ideas with staff from Mission Local. Reserve your free tickets now.

More soon,

Sara
