After reviewing video of the incident, a S.F. judge has released Tony Phillips from jail. Phillips is charged with assaulting and resisting officers in a brawl with Mayor Daniel Lurie‘s police bodyguards last week. Eleni Balakrishnan reports that the judge said the video showed Phillips was “violently assaulted” by an officer.

Earlier, Phillips’ court-appointed lawyer put much of the blame on Lurie for inciting the confrontation, and on his bodyguard for shoving Phillips to the ground twice.

Over in the Sunset, voters who supported turning the Great Highway into Sunset Dunes Park are left, writes Junyao Yang, with only one “far from front-runner” candidate who agrees with them. See why D4 candidates feel that being in favor of re-opening the highway to cars is “a political reality” needed to win.

More soon,

Sara
