Today from Mission Local

Good afternoon! Here’s the latest:

Big-money groups and billionaires spent over $37 million on ballot measures and moderate candidates this year—but none of it on the winner of the mayoral race, Daniel Lurie. So, says a source close to Lurie, “We don’t owe them a goddamn thing.” Joe Rivano Barros heard some very frank self-criticism from tech funders about the coalition’s failures, and found out what the moderate groups plan to do next to defeat progressives.

Mission Local will continue this kind of in-depth political reporting and analysis in 2025. We’ve got more exit interviews and a guide to the new faces in City Hall coming soon—as well as ongoing coverage of the police, corruption, schools, housing, homelessness, and the neighborhoods and cultures of our city. Thank you so much to all the readers who donate to keep our nonprofit newsroom strong and independent. Stay tuned!

More soon,

Sara
