UPDATE: On Friday the Medical Examiner identified the victim, Joseph Miguel Zarate, a 20-year-old resident of Tulare county.

A man was shot and killed at around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the 16th Street BART plaza, according to the San Francisco Police Department.

The department said in a press statement that officers from Mission Station arrived at the scene at the 2000 block of Mission Street and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Medics rendered aid and brought the victim to the hospital.

Despite their efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. The Medical Examiner has not yet identified the deceased.

The police department has identified two suspects regarding the shooting. Both have been arrested, but the department is not releasing further information about their identity at this time.

The killing is the 24th homicide this year, according to SFPD data, and the seventh in the Mission District.

This is an open and active investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the SFPD Tip Line at 1-415-575-4444 or Text a Tip to TIP411 and begin the text message with SFPD.

  1. What the hell is going on around 16th and Mission? We’ve been living in a free fire zone for four months now.

Where is Hillary Ronen? Already checked out.

Where is London Breed? OK w/more dead Mission voters.

Where is SFPD? SFPD’s dog ate their homework.

Where are the Mission nonprofits that purport to speak for the community? Without being paid, The Mission’s “community leaders” can’t be bothered.

Had this been happening in any other neighborhood, there would be political hell to pay. In the Mission, all we get are governmental crickets, advocacy tumbleweeds and the crack of gunfire.

What changed in the lead up to this spike in gun violence? Could it be the opening of the Mission Cabins? Or is there something else that’s changed?

Why is Mission Local not digging into any backstory that’s driving the spike in gun violence around 16th BART?

    1. Someone drives a black SUV, opens the rear hatch and hangs out for 39 minutes doing his crooked business. Why canโ€™t S.F.P.D. figure this out, itโ€™s not difficult.
