• The Police Commission voted last night to take back control of creating the SFPD’s social media policy. It also rescinded two secret “bureau orders” that sidestepped the commission’s authority—sending a strong message about who’s setting policy for the cops. “I want to be clear that this resolution is a statement of disapproval from this commission,” said Commissioner Kevin Benedicto.
• Rock Band Land, a year-round Mission camp for kids 4-13, teaches guitar, drumming, music tech, videography, songwriting, and more. “This is not cute,” says its co-founder. “This is real work. A lot of kids that struggle in other places thrive here.”
• The San Francisco Documentary Festival at the Roxie (online and in person) kicks off tonight with a film about the “Satanic Panic” of the 1980s. Also tonight, an an Afro-Caribbean dance class and afterparty at Bissap Baobab. There’s lots more stuff to do coming up this weekend!
