CAFE LA BOHEME 6 A.M.  Good Morning Mission District!  57° Farenheit, but feels cooler with a light stinging breeze. Unsettled and forecasters saying rain developing after 10 A.M. lasting through tomorrow morning.

MUNI Throwdown This Morning

MUNI angst, which has been building for weeks, comes to a head this morning at City Hall, 9 A.M.  Get there early, as crowds of angry riders, drivers, merchants, bureaucrats and politicos wrestle with projected budgets.   With real people talking, the meeting promises to be more dramatic, and also more substantive than yesterday’s DC show — which was so boring, I decided to go to work.

Annals of Affordable Housing

The ultra-Copenhagenesque Nove apartments that replaced Guerrero Gardens are finally opening.  The two apartments ready are now list at $1.1M and $1.5M.  I have not been able to find the square footage of these apartments, but I’m sure there are some square feet and they do have as many parking spaces as bedrooms.  Walking past the old Victorians on the same block,  one can be forgiven for wondering how it is that even though, as a community etc., we are much wealthier than we were a century ago,  the new housing going up  all over the Mission (even the “luxury” places like this one) looks like it’s been designed by Microsoft template and constructed with paper and plastic.  Open House this Sunday.

It Ain’t Marriage, but . . .

Last year the first NBA player came out of the closet, provoking a homophobic hate-filled tirade by former Golden State Warrior Tim Hardaway.  This year, no doubt motivated by a passionate commitment to social justice (rather than another miserable season and falling attendance), the Warriors will host their first gay and lesbian night, after a full day of activities.  Quite the extravaganza.  “You’ve come a long way baby.”

Park in a Kit

We’ve seen the instant parks come and go on Valencia, but wait til you see what’s in store for 22nd street.  Yesterday Mayor Newsom inaugurated two new completed pavement-to-parks projects adding to the original “parklets” located at 17th and Castro and in the Mission at Guerrero and San Jose.  Upcoming next, next month they say, will be the 22nd Street Parklet, on the block of 22nd between Bartlett and Mission.  Because it will be a “modular” park, if it doesn’t work there, they can pack it up and take it to Dogpatch.

Full Moon Returns to Mission

The Lunada, a community full moon perfomance ritual, will take place this Sunday at Galeria de la Raza at 7:30 P.M.  Performing this month are two women’s music collectives:  LAS BOMBERAS DE LA BAHIA, the Bay Area’s only all-women’s Bomba ensemble and LAS NO QUE NO, the L.A. based all-women’s Son Jarocho collective.

Best Performance by a Supporting Actress

Props to Pelosi!  In her role as Fighting Nancy, our woman in Washington performed with style and substance as she swatted Republican lies like they were flies, and even chided Obama for dropping the public option.  Political junkies say she always talks a good game before selling out.  OK, Fighting Nan — time to prove your critics wrong.
