Two separate shootings that occurred within a block of one another but hours apart left three men injured, two of them critically, on Thursday morning.
The first incident unfolded at 2:18 a.m. near the intersection of 17th and Mission streets where two men, ages 39 and 36, were sitting inside of a parked vehicle when they were approached by a black sedan occupied by a man and a woman.
It is unclear which of the unidentified suspects was driving the sedan, but police report that upon pulling up to the victim’s car, the driver of the sedan exited and approached their vehicle on foot. The driver then produced a handgun and shot both of the men, who were still sitting inside of their vehicle.
Both men suffered life-threatening gunshot wounds and were transported to San Francisco General Hospital, while the suspects sped off and were not arrested.
One Man Injured in Second Shooting on Thursday
Hours later, at 9:26 a.m., police responded to a shooting at the 16th Street BART plaza, located at the intersection of 16th and Mission streets. Officer Giselle Talkoff, a spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department, said that a 46-year-old man was shot in the right leg and transported to the hospital and that his injuries “did not appear to be life threatening.”

It is unclear what led to the shooting, but the victim was shot while at a bus stop at the intersection from a silver sedan, either a Mercedes or Lincoln with paper plates. The police are searching for two women in connection to the shooting, who fled in their silver sedan northbound on Mission Street.
The victim did not reveal information about the shooting, police said.
The 16th Street BART Plaza was the scene of a fatal stabbing earlier this month that claimed the life of 55-year-old Larry Teevy. On Tuesday, 32-year-old Alameda resident Robert Lewis was shot and killed near 20th and Shotwell streets. Police have not made any arrests in connection with either of the killings.
Arsonist Attempts to Set Woman’s Car on Fire
At 11:40 p.m. on Wednesday, a 36-year-old woman became the victim of an arson attempt when an unknown suspect lit a rag on fire and stuffed it inside of the gas tank of the woman’s vehicle, which was parked near the intersection of 21st and Folsom streets. The woman was not injured, but the burning rag caused cosmetic damage to the vehicle’s gas tank door. San Francisco Fire Department arson investigators responded to the scene, but no arrests have been made in the case.
