Police report a 53-year-old man was walking eastbound on Cesar Chavez Street at 5:36 p.m. on Friday, March 11 when a gray vehicle pulled up. A passenger of the car fired shots at the victim, hitting him in the chest. The car drove off with the suspect in it, and the victim was transported to the hospital in non-life-threatening condition. No arrest was made.

Aggravated Assault

On Saturday, March 12, at around 3 a.m., four men were dining at a restaurant on Mission Street between 18th and 19th streets when four other men sitting nearby called out racial slurs to them, sparking an argument.

Once outside, the situation escalated into a brawl, leaving the men who had been insulted with injuries that required stitches and in one case left a man unconscious. Three of the victims were transported to the hospital for treatment, while the suspects fled. No arrests were made.

Three Robberies, One Attempted Purse Snatch

Shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday on Capp Street between 24th and 25th streets, two men in their 20s approached a 27-year-old man. One of them pretended to have a gun and demanded the victim hand over his cell phone. The victim complied, handing over the phone, and the two men fled the scene. The victim was uninjured, and no arrest was made.

At 11 a.m. the same day, a man in his 40s was told that his car on Shotwell Street between 15th and 16th streets was being broken into. When he encountered two men in their 40s at the car, he got into a fight with one of them. He was subsequently hit with a bicycle chain ring and crank, and the victims fled with the victim’s computer monitor and carpentry tools. One rode a silver mountain bike, the other a purple mountain bike. No arrest was made, and the victim did not seek medical attention.

On Sunday, March 13, a 25-year-old man was robbed while standing on Cesar Chavez Street between Alabama and Florida streets. At 10:40 p.m., the victim was trying to cross the street when two men in their 20s approached him and pushed him to the ground. One of them instructed the victim to hand over his wallet, while the other went into the victim’s pocket and took both the victim’s wallet and phone. The suspects then fled on foot in separate directions.

A 33-year-old woman was walking down 19th Street toward Valencia street on Saturday at around 10 p.m. when a man in his 20s approached her from behind and grabbed her purse. The woman wrestled with the suspect, trying to prevent him from taking the purse. She yelled for help, and two people came to assist, holding the suspect in place until officers arrived to arrest him.
