On Shotwell, by Esther Reyes

It’s 7 a.m., 49° and headed to 60°. Details for the next 10 days are here.

Valley Wag informs us today that Larry Page will not be leaving his money to us. Sigh. Another fantasy bites the dust. Eric?

Gaelen Gates show us the progress on a new mural in Clarion Alley.

And if you think the Mission is expensive, well, feel better by looking at what it would cost you to buy this 450-square-foot studio in SoHo. But, I suppose that while you will pay nearly $1 million, you will also feel virtuous for living in such a small space.

Burrito Justice has this giff to offer us on the 14 Mission. Does anyone else get nauseous looking at these giffs? I love Burrito Justice, but I’m over giffs.

Ah, something to unsettle your breakfast — or make you feel better if you happen to be one of the handful of voters in the Mission District who opt for Republicans — odds guru Nate Silver predicts that Republicans will retake the Senate in the mid-term elections.

Enjoy the day!

I’ve been a Mission resident since 1998 and a professor emeritus at Berkeley’s J-school since 2019. I got my start in newspapers at the Albuquerque Tribune in the city where I was born and raised. Like many local news outlets, The Tribune no longer exists. I left daily newspapers after working at The New York Times for the business, foreign and city desks. Lucky for all of us, it is still here.

As an old friend once pointed out, local has long been in my bones. My Master’s Project at Columbia, later published in New York Magazine, was on New York City’s experiment in community boards.

As founder and an editor at ML, I've been trying to figure out how to make my interest in local news sustainable. If Mission Local is a model, the answer might be that you - the readers - reward steady and smart content. As a thank you for that support we work every day to make our content even better.
