  1. On November 21st at a UCSF public comment meeting they stated they plan to cut trees less than 6″ in diameter; the next day they revised that with a 50 square inch increase in choice of tree to kill.

“I’m writing to inform you of a correction to the Mount Sutro proposed hazard reduction measures that were presented in the community meeting on Thursday, November, 21. I apologize for the error and actions are being taken immediately to correct the record and to inform the community.

The PowerPoint presentation that was made to the community on Nov. 21 stated that the Hazard Reduction Alternative would remove trees with a stem diameter of less than 6” from three specific project areas with the Reserve (North, South and West). These three project areas total 25 acres.

The correct information is that the proposed Hazard Reduction Measures recommend removing trees with a stem diameter of less than 10” in the North and South project areas, and to remove trees with a stem diameter less than 6” in the West project area. This difference is based upon the North and South project areas being more open and possessing larger trees, whereas the West project area is more dense and contains a higher number of small trees. The stem diameter measurement will be taken at a level of approximately 54” above grade.

It is important to note that the total number of trees that would be removed under the proposed Hazard Reduction Measures is 3,700, which was the total reported at the Nov. 21 community meeting.

My sincerest apologies for this oversight. Please contact me with any questions.”
