After more than a year-and-a-half of being shuttered, 518 Valencia Street, formerly Abandoned Planet Bookstore, will open its doors as a political space for progressive social movements next week.
Event organizers plan to honor Eric Quezada, a longtime community organizer who passed away last month, at its opening next Saturday.
From its facebook event page:
“We will be building a community altar in honor of Eric throughout the day. Please bring photos, flowers, candles or any items to honor our friend and comrade. The items from this altar will become part of a larger community altar that will be featured at the Mission Cultural Center for Latino Arts’ Dia de los Muertos exhibition from October 22nd to November 19th.”
The building, owned by Kendra Alexander Foundation, can be rented to like-minded organization. Rates here.
