It’s 6:42 a.m., 51° and going to 59°. That’s right. Three degrees warmer today. The 10-day forecast is here.
Happy Park(ing) Day! As we like to point out, exhaustively, Park(ing) Day was invented by the local folks over at REBAR, which means that that Mission gets some serious bragging rights. We noticed going over the map of parks today that the Mission has fewer than we remember in the past – partly because we had a mini boom in Parklets this year, which means less feeding quarters into meters, more taking the ability to sit in the street drinking coffee as cars whiz by for granted. We will take this as a sign of progress.
Your Mission locations, in case you were wondering:
Valencia @ 21st – Ritual Coffee Roasters. They always have the best parks. I still haven’t forgotten the man in a bear suit smoking a cigarette outside in their wilderness-themed one last year. The theme this year? Barns.
Valencia @ 20th – 826 Valencia. The theme is…wait for it….wait for it….Okay. It’s pirates. Are you surprised?
Valencia @ 18th – Yoga Between Two Meters – Pretty much exactly what it sounds like.
Valencia @ 14th – Friends School – QUAKERS! Perhaps they will share some of their famous oatmeal…
Nice story about the origins of Park(ing) Day here…
Map of all the parks in the the whole entire city here…
Also: not especially local, but interesting – the undamning of the West begins?
