Happy Labor Day everyone! Let’s start the week with something beautiful. Once, a new iPad photo magazine is launching this month. And although I’ve just seen the introduction video so far, I can tell you it looks beautiful and I’m excited to see more.

The Bay Citizen reports that “Once magazine founders are hoping to find a way to make traditional photojournalism sustainable by marrying Silicon Valley business sense with serious journalsim. The iPad-only publication packages stories featuring 20-25 photos accompanied by essays. In keeping with the benefits of digital publishing, the essays will be enhanced with video, audio, maps, and (that staple of the new media sphere) infographics.”

A new parklet can be found in front of Fabric8 according to MissionMission.

Built with recycled materials, it features planter boxes full of flowers, a color-changing light house, and four bean bag chairs, When completed, the parklet will serve as a neighborhood gallery of kid-friendly public art.

Hélène Goupil is a former editor at Mission Local who now works independently as a videographer and editor. She's the co-author of "San Francisco: The Unknown City" (Arsenal Pulp Press).
