ODC Theater: SFDanceworks: Season 6

SFDanceworks returns for Season 6, continuing its mission to present the ‘Past, Present and Future’ of world-class contemporary dance by exploring dance heritage, identity and the intrinsic choreographic connection to music. This season’s program includes five works. “Gustave Le Gray No. 1” is a quartet by Pam Tanowitz with live piano accompaniment. An excerpt from José Limón’s modern dance classic “Danzas Mexicanas”, responding to his Mexican heritage. Three world premieres include the long-awaited debut of Bryan Arias, the return of SF-based choreographer Laura O’Malley working with composer Alton Allen, and the West Coast choreographic debut of emerging artist Alexander Anderson.

SFDanceworks is an SF Based mixed repertory, project-based company dedicated to the presentation and commissioning of world-class contemporary dance. By pairing choreographers, dance artists, musicians, and visual artists from around the globe, we forge innovative, immersive, and unforgettable dance experiences, and like a chorus together we ask, what is new in dance? What is ‘Contemporary’ in dance? Furthermore, the revival of masterworks lends a historical perspective to the new works created by today’s leading and emerging artists.
