Mission Local has learned that a 19-year-old woman was killed in San Francisco after being shot multiple times last night by an unknown assailant at Ingalls Street and Harbor Road, in Hunters Point. A 19-year-old man was also shot and injured, but is now in stable condition.

The perpetrator fled the scene before police responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 10:35 p.m. By the time officers arrived, the victims, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, had driven nearly two miles to the 2200 block of Cesar Chavez Street and had stopped along the road.

The young man and woman were possibly en route to San Francisco General Hospital, just a few blocks away. Officers and paramedics transported the victims to the hospital, but despite the efforts of paramedics and medical staff, the female victim, who has yet to be identified, was declared dead at the hospital.

The double shooting occurred in a largely residential neighborhood near India Basin Shoreline Park in Hunters Point. It is unknown whether the victims knew each other or the gunman.

The shooting is the 15th homicide in San Francisco so far this year, and the fourth in Bayview. By August of last year, there were 22 homicides throughout the city

Gun violence across San Francisco — and in Bayview Hunters Point which historically has had a higher violent crime rate than the rest of the city — is at a historic low. Last year, San Francisco recorded the lowest homicide rate in 60 years
