On Tuesday at 5 p.m., a 31-year-old woman was walking near 16th and Valencia streets, talking on her phone, when a man in his early 20s wearing a blue hoodie walked up beside her. The suspect tried to grab the phone from her hand and the victim fought back, ripping a necklace from the suspect’s neck.

The suspect eventually got her phone and pointed a handgun at her. The victim then grabbed the handgun from the suspect and threw it into the intersection at 16th and Valencia streets. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction with her phone, and the victim ran into a nearby store to call 911. The police did not recover the handgun, and the victim could not recall where she threw it and whether anyone took it.

The police have not made an arrest.

And a few hours earlier at 2 p.m., a 31-year-old woman was walking on 25th Street between Dolores and Guerrero streets when she felt a nudge on her shoulder and turned around to see a man in his 20s pointing a handgun at her face. Scared, the victim handed over her purse with cash and her cell phone in it, though the suspect did not say anything.

The suspect then took the purse and fled on foot in an unknown direction. The police have not made an arrest.

  1. Wow, that woman disarmed the guy! That is both dangerous and yet amazing. Would love nore details on how that went down. The more people fight back against the rising crime in our city, the more thugs will think twice about their potential crime.

But it is nuts how bad crime has gotten and how useless our policr and justice system is at preventing it.
