It is 9 a.m. and these photos were taken earlier. It is now 49˚ and expected to rise to a cooler 61˚. Details for the next ten days are here.
Today’s Block: Tiffany to Mission, Valencia to 29th.
The air was fresh after yesterday’s rain and wind, so it was a pleasure to take an early walk–this time in La Lengua (“the tongue”), the southern triangle on the Mission Local map. It’s somewhat disputed territory: some claim it as part of the Mission; others, as part of Bernal Heights, and sometimes even as Noe Valley territory. Folks at Bernalwood call it La Lengua Autonomous Zone. The name surfaced around 2009–possibly invented by Burrito Justice–after an alternative, Socha (SOuth of Cesar CHAvez), failed to find a following, for good reason. The bottom line is that Mission Street is the backbone of the area, and it’s packed with eateries of all varieties. The block I photographed is a few blocks from my apartment and runs from Duncan and Valencia along Mission to 29th Street and back along Tiffany.
With the light good early on, so much the better to sign on to document your block. Don’t wait! Let us know what day and block you would like at info@missionlocal.com.
You can see a map of all of the blocks here. The blocks in grey are being saved for others who have signed up. Let us save a block for you as well.
