Over the seven days since November 23, police reported five stolen cell phones in separate mugging incidents. One of the cell phones was recovered.
Although there were several incidents of vandalism during the protests on Friday night, police reported only one in the department’s recap for the Thanksgiving holiday – the 10:20 p.m. shattering of a store’s windows and the looting of the store on Mission Street between 23rd and 24th Streets. Five suspects allegedly smashed the stores’ windows and then ran off with some tablets and headphones.
It is unclear how many protesters were arrested on Friday night and the extent of the damage.
One mugging on Sunday, Nov. 24th could easily have been avoided if the victim had been a regular reader of Mission Local. Yep, it happened at the 16th Street BART station between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. according to police. A 36-year-old man was attacked for his cell phone.
As we have written, keep cellphones hidden when going into or out of the BART stations at 16th and 24th Streets.
24th and Capp Streets
Two of the incidents over the holiday occurred at 24th and Capp Streets. The first mugging occurred at 6:30 p.m. on Monday when two women of an undetermined age attacked a 28-year-old woman. One of the suspects grabbed the victim’s hair while the second suspect went through the victim’s purse and stole her cell phone and money.
The second incident happened at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday when two men in their 20s and and one younger woman pushed a 22-year-old man into a Silver Toyota SUV and drove the victim to the area of Mansell St. near John McLaren Park. The suspects took the victim’s wallet and keys and fled from the area.
Friday
At 2 a.m. on Shotwell and 24th Streets, two men and one woman, all between the ages of 25-30, mugged a 37-year-old man, taking his wallet and cell phone. The victim was assaulted – possibly with an iron bar – and was treated at San Francisco General Hospital for head lacerations.
Saturday
At 1:40 a.m. a 20-something male mugged a 30-year-old man standing on the sidewalk at 15th and Mission Streets. The suspect had a knife on him and demanded the victim’s wallet and cell phone.
Just minutes later at 16th Street and Dolores, two suspects – one 19 and one 21 years old – approached a 49-year-old man with a knife and demanded his property. Police later apprehended the suspects who had fled on foot. Police recovered victim’s cellphone.
At 2:50 a.m. three suspects approached a 40-year-old man at 18th and Capp Streets and began an argument. The suspects took the victim’s wallet, ID and his keys.
Crime is trauma and the county offers different services. Here is a link to a page of services.
Victims of violent crime can also contact the Trauma Recover Center at UCSF.

This is one of the most common crimes going in the area. You’d think SFPD and BART PD would conduct some stings.
“As we have written, keep cellphones hidden when going into or out of the BART stations at 16th and 24th Streets.”
if that is not the best endorsement for the “CLEAN UP THE PLAZA” campaign, nothing is…..
