The San Francisco Examiner reports that the school board met once again with Maximus Partners, the developers of a 351-unit rental project at 16th and Mission.

While many speakers, including teachers, parents and residents, expressed support for the plan, some concerns were voiced including construction noise and dust. The developer has touted certain benefits including an expansion of the area playground and the creation of jobs and below-market-rate housing.

But some say much more is at stake since the site has become symbolic as part of San Francisco’s battle over housing, development and gentrification.

  1. sounds like most people are rational and support this excellent project, and it was only a few crazies who were whining about it. Glad to see that most people are reasonable. Too bad we let the irrational few cause so much delay and harm to our city and the development of much-needed new housing.

  2. Who cares what these parents say, their kids will be graduating college by the time this is finally built. I am talking PhD degrees not just 4 year degrees. People wonder why housing is so expensive. This should have been build 50 years ago.

  3. When people resort to complaining about noise and dust, you know they are running out of serious objections. Placate the crybabies, tacitly ignore the perma anti development loosers, and get this thing approved! Hooray!
