An unidentified man was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a car on the corner of 26th and Folsom Streets last Thursday night, police said.

The victim was standing on the southwest side of 26th Street, when a man in a Honda sedan hit him at around 11:44 p.m. The suspect, described only as a 5’6″ man, took off in an unknown direction. The victim was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with severe head trauma, said SFPD spokesperson Albie Esparza.

Police said it’s not clear if the suspect hit the man on purpose, but a friend of the victim told police that it was intentional.

Witnesses on the scene describe hearing a loud noise and screams from people who were there at the scene. Dozens of onlookers from an apartment complex nearby told Mission Local that the man is a resident there, though they declined to say where he lived.

We will update this story as we get more information.
