It is 7:10 a.m., 52° and headed to 60°. Details for the next 10 days are here.

Well here is a list from CNN that probably needs to be updated or maybe SF is not all that some think. We didn’t make the list of the most expensive cities in the world to rent, but clearly should probably be on there.

Welcome to two new stores, Chocolatier Blue at 904 Valencia St., the ninth store of a Berkeley chocolate maker, and Pretty Penny at 1201-A Guerrero near 24th Street, the vintage retailer from Rockridge.

And here’s some good news in the governor’s state budget proposal from the California Budget Project:

This brief shows that 1.5 million Californians are projected to enroll in the program due to implementation of health care reform, bringing total Medi-Cal enrollment to slightly more than 10 million. This boost in enrollment is projected to increase federal funding for Medi-Cal by more than $10 billion through June 2015.

And, if like me you want to run away and become a dancer, don’t miss the Shostakovich Trilogy at the San Francisco ballet. It opened last night and is beautiful.

Enjoy the day!

I’ve been a Mission resident since 1998 and a professor emeritus at Berkeley’s J-school since 2019. I got my start in newspapers at the Albuquerque Tribune in the city where I was born and raised. Like many local news outlets, The Tribune no longer exists. I left daily newspapers after working at The New York Times for the business, foreign and city desks. Lucky for all of us, it is still here.

As an old friend once pointed out, local has long been in my bones. My Master’s Project at Columbia, later published in New York Magazine, was on New York City’s experiment in community boards.

As founder and an editor at ML, I've been trying to figure out how to make my interest in local news sustainable. If Mission Local is a model, the answer might be that you - the readers - reward steady and smart content. As a thank you for that support we work every day to make our content even better.
