It is 7 a.m., 53° and headed to 70°. Details for the next 10 days are here.

If you’re walking and scratching your wrist, it might be time to return your Fitbit Force wristband. The FDA now has a mandatory recall of the step-counters, writes the San Francisco Business Times.

The federal agency said San Francisco-based Fitbit had received about 9,900 reports of the Force, which operates as a pedometer, sleep monitor and watch, causing skin irritation and about 250 reports of blistering.

Wine Enthusiast Magazine visited the Mission and issued its report. No surprises but a good summary of Mission hotspots.

Here’s an update on the second appearance of the suspect in last Saturday’s shooting of the police officer on Florida Street.

And I missed this earlier in the week: Ed Lee wants city officials to “draw up lists of landholdings that could be turned into housing,” reports the SF Business Times.

Enjoy the day!

Founder/Executive Editor. I’ve been a Mission resident since 1998 and a professor emeritus at Berkeley’s J-school since 2019 when I retired. I got my start in newspapers at the Albuquerque Tribune in the city where I was born and raised. Like many local news outlets, The Tribune no longer exists. I left daily newspapers after working at The New York Times for the business, foreign and city desks. Lucky for all of us, it is still there.

As an old friend once pointed out, local has long been in my bones. My Master’s Project at Columbia, later published in New York Magazine, was on New York City’s experiment in community boards.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how you make that long-held interest in local news sustainable. The answer continues to elude me.
