On lower Mission.

It’s 7 a.m., 49° and headed to 63°. Details for the next ten days are here.

It’s always good to know that living in another part of San Francisco could be pricier. Curbed SF lists San Francisco’s wealthiest neighborhoods — those that make the wealthiest in the nation list.

Muni Diaries gives us a reason to ride Muni: a Cello player. And has anyone else noticed how the buskers at the 24th Street BART station have gotten really good? Last week it was jazz one night and an aria on another night.

Ah, and those still contentious  — or not — Sunday parking meters. Streetsblog SF breaks down the issue here.

Enjoy the day!

Founder/Executive Editor. I’ve been a Mission resident since 1998 and a professor emeritus at Berkeley’s J-school since 2019 when I retired. I got my start in newspapers at the Albuquerque Tribune in the city where I was born and raised. Like many local news outlets, The Tribune no longer exists. I left daily newspapers after working at The New York Times for the business, foreign and city desks. Lucky for all of us, it is still there.

As an old friend once pointed out, local has long been in my bones. My Master’s Project at Columbia, later published in New York Magazine, was on New York City’s experiment in community boards.

Right now I'm trying to figure out how you make that long-held interest in local news sustainable. The answer continues to elude me.

  1. Balboa Terrace and Inner Richmond both in the five richest SF neighborhoods?

I would not have guessed that.

In any event, the Mission is nowhere close to those levels as the average family income in the Mission is a small fraction of those neighborhoods.

    What gentrification?
