A 25-year-old man was standing at 24th and Mission streets at 1 a.m. today checking his phone when someone punched him from behind.
He fell to the ground and the suspect and an accomplice kicked the victim and took his wallet, cash and cell phone, according to the police report.
The suspects then fled on foot and no arrests have been made. The victim took himself to the hospital where he was treated for a black eye and a bump on the head.
Earlier police told Mission Local that often cell phones are swiped at the BART stations as passengers come onto the plaza checking for their messages. Basically, Mission Street is not a great place to check your phone.

i think there should be a police unit stationed at 24th, especially in evening/night. And at 16th. Criminals take advantage of commuters waiting for transportation, and nothing is done about it.
