A man was shot while standing in front of a liquor store on 24th and Shotwell streets shortly before 1 a.m. on Tuesday, police said.

The suspect, described as a man between the ages of 22 and 23, approached the victim and shot him in the torso, then fled in a black vehicle.

The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening and he was taken to a nearby hospital.

Police are still looking for the suspect. If you have any information, contact the police department at 415-575-4444 or send a tip by text message to TIP411.

  1. I also second (or third?) Dave’s and Eddie’s comments. As a very long time Mission resident,I am also much more afraid of other things than the corner of Shotwell and 24th.The Mission is only as frightening as we allow it to be. Fear attracts negative elements. Let’s instead enjoy our beautiful neighborhood. David Campos is not a magician and cannot control shootings with the wave of a hand, but I feel much safer with him than I ever did with his predecessor, Tom Amiano, who completely ignored us and our concerns. (Just as an aside, Amiano never once responded to any e-mail that I ever sent to him.)

  2. I second Dave’s comment. I’m not adding anything new, but neither do the commenters who harp about public urination, etc.

  3. Long time Mission resident here. I have never been the victim of a crime while living here. There is crime citywide but one’s chances of being a victim is slim. I am way more afraid of being hit by a var or speeding MUNI bus on South Van Ness.

    1. Anecdotes are basically worthless. You and plenty of people have lived in high crime areas with not a single problem…and many others who live in high crime areas have had plenty of problems. Crime statistics speak for themselves, and the Mission has one of the highest crime rates in San Francisco (which as a whole doesn’t exactly have a low crime rate).

  4. Becasue there is almost no law enforcement on 24th st. and George’s is a hang-out for the Shotwell Norteños, we’ll just see more and more of this kind of thing on that corner. It’s been that way for years except for the few months we had police presence on 24th after the Hell’s Angel’s shooting.

  5. Who survives five gunshots with non life-threatening injuries? Amazing. I’m glad to learn he made it. That said. it’s been a busy few weeks for SFPD. The mission is not getting any safer. What is being done about it?

    1. Your neighborhood? It’s the thugs’ neighborhood too, and has been for decades…just saying. They live there with you. You may not like that fact, but it is what it is.

  6. The SFPD did a nice job catching a couple of suspects in a homicide on South Van Ness a couple of weeks ago. I hope that they get the suspect on this one as well.
