Last night, the Mission experienced its third homicide in the last eight days. According to police, two men were shot near 24th and Harrison streets in the early evening. One died at the scene and the other was taken to the hospital. We will update this story as soon as we receive more information.

The Giants beat the Detroit Tigers 8-3 last night in the first game of the World Series. Pablo Sandoval knocked three balls out of the park, making him one of only three players in history to hit three home runs in a World Series game. Read more here.

The LA Times reports that on Friday California will begin to regain control of its prison health care system, which has been in the hands of federal courts for seven years. Initial changes include building new care facilities and making sure inmates have access to doctors, clinics and hospitals.
