The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence announced in a press release that Sister Boom Boom, aka Jack Fertig, succumbed to liver cancer on Sunday, Aug. 5, “in the loving presence of his partner Elias Trevino and dogs, Chloe and Perry.”
Sister Boom Boom ran for the Board of Supervisors in 1982, listing his occupation as “Nun of the Above” and garnering 23,124 votes. After leaving the order in 1985, he became “an award-winning astrologer and respected Queer Muslim activist,” according to the release.
The order is planning a public memorial, to be announced soon, and asks for donations to Grateful Dogs Rescue or LYRIC for LGBTQ Youth in lieu of gifts or flowers.
