The Oscars have arrived and they’re bringing back Billy Crystal to try and make us laugh. You have until 5:30 p.m. to watch any of the nominated movies you missed, or if you’re like me, you’ll wait to hear what the judges say first.

The California Republican Convention started yesterday near SFO. Newt Gingrich, the lone presidential candidate in attendance, gave a 48-minute speech blasting Obama for an “anti-American energy policy” and believing in small cars when “the American people like big cars,” according to the SJ Mercury News.

In a private video interview, Gingrich tried to explain to the Chronicle what he means by “San Francisco values,” but devolved into a story about an encounter with a transvestite here many years ago.
