Good morning Mission! The weekend is finally here. It’s 7 a.m., 40° and headed to 59°. If you’re looking to go on a holiday excursion, this is the perfect weekend. It will be all sun — great weather to get out of the house and enjoy the holidays outdoors. Details for the next 10 days are here.

Not everyone will have a home for the holidays. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that a city effort to house 75 homeless families by Christmas will fall short. But eight families have already moved into their new homes, and the city hopes to house many more in the coming weeks. Here’s an excerpt from the article:

It’s going to take a little bit longer, but with city workers and outside agencies hustling to open vacant public housing units and a new shelter while doling out rental subsidies, officials expect dozens of families will get a new roof within weeks, said Dariush Kayhan, the mayor’s director of homeless policy.

Mission Local has the story of how the holiday season affects the homeless.

For some lighter news, literally: The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Mayor Ed Lee and PG&E are promising that the lights will stay on at Candlestick Park after Monday night’s nationally televised game between the 49ers and Steelers was marred by power outages. Lee called the outages a “national embarrassment.”

And if you want to remember 2011: The New York Times has a pictorial year in review this morning, covering everything from the Arab Spring to Occupy, nature and 2011 milestones.

Happy Friday, Mission! And happy holidays!
