Police are searching for a suspect in a sexual assault and attempted murder that took place early Friday morning on 24th Street.

Sometime between 3 and 4:30 a.m. on Friday, the suspect pursued a woman down 24th Street from South Van Ness to Potrero. After demanding money from her, which police say “she was unable to produce,” the suspect grabbed the woman and took her to another location, where she was punched, slapped and sexually assaulted, according to police.

The suspect fled on foot toward 25th and Alabama streets.

Police described the suspect as a black man with medium-light complexion, 35 to 50 years old and 5 feet, 11 inches to 6 feet, 1 inch tall. He weighs approximately 150 to 160 pounds.

The suspect had a round, clean-shaven face, big eyes, a round nose and thick lips, according to police.

At the time of the assault, the suspect was wearing athletic apparel, a light gray hoodie with a front zipper, blue cotton running pants and sporty-looking tennis shoes that were possibly black and white.
