It’s 7:25 a.m., 55° and headed to 71°. Sun, and lots of it. Details are here.

Hello and welcome to the first day of July 4 weekend! If you’re staying in town, I highly recommend climbing up Bernal Hill on the fourth to “see the fireworks.”

The explosions over the bay just look like incandescent smudges, but the crowd is sweet and jovial, and those who stick it out will discover that the hill has an excellent view — of all the illegal fireworks being set off in the Inner Mission.

What’s going on today?

The last details of the city budget are hammered out.

The city ponders the memo issued by the Justice Department, in which Deputy Attorney General James M. Cole writes that marijuana is illegal, no matter what ideas certain states or municipalities may have gotten into their heads.

Also, in the realm of thinking about America — it’s the end of the NASA Space Shuttle Program, people. Last launch is next Friday. The Atlantic has some great photographs of the program.

Have a great weekend.
