  2. Those type of wandering musicians are not mariachi. They would be called norteño, or tejano musicians. While both genres play some if the same songs, the styles are very different, and musicians in both genres would want to be identified for what they are.

    If you don’t know the difference between the genres by the sound of the music, you will be able to recognize mariachi when you see it, there are more than three of four of tem usually, and mariachi will be wearing matching outfits with metal buttons down the sides of their pants, and on their jackets.
