Three burglaries within a few days of each other – all on 16th Street, between Dolores and Guerrero, say the police reports.
First, on Friday, a man reported to police that someone had walked through his back door in the early evening, making off with his wallet and his cell phone.
Then, Tuesday morning, someone came into two different apartments on the same block while their occupants lay sleeping inside. A laptop, a desktop and some cash were missing from the first place, and a wallet and some car keys from the others. (It appears the burglar wasn’t able to find the car that the keys belonged to, since the car was still where it was parked earlier.)
In Tuesday’s cases, the entry point was an unlocked back door in the Tuesday burglaries as well. The front doors to both buildings have metal security gates. But the houses on the north side of the block are adjacent to an apartment building that has a view of the back porches of the robbed homes.
Angie Garcia, a resident of the block, said she was surprised to hear about the burglaries and described the block as very quiet. In the 35 years that she’s lived on the block, she hasn’t heard of any robberies since the late 70’s.

This happened in Potrero, two weeks ago: 3 “HOT” (i.e. someone in the house– in all cases, small children, too (:) robberies, one at Rhode Island and 22nd,one at 24th +Rhode Island, one at 23rd & De Haro– all the same week.
My boyfriend’s building on Haight and Pierce was also robbed twice in the last month, one unit then the other a few weeks later. Laptops, ipods, cash and keys were stolen. It’s likely the second burglary was possible via the keys stolen from the first. The first robbery occurred while tenants were home, and it’s likely the second did as well, as they only went as far as the first two bedrooms closest to the back door.
Yes well crime is getting as bad as the 70s I guess. These 3 plus the home invasion last week in the neighborhood. I’m glad a have a gun in the house. Anyone breaking in will be in for a very nasty surprise…
