Cell phones and purses proved to be coveted items for thieves on Thursday.

A 35-year-old man punched a 31-year-old man and stole his black Gucci bag, cell phone and some money, according to a police report.

The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. near the corner of Guerrero and 16th streets. The suspect knocked the victim to the ground, took his bag and ran off with it, according to police.

No description of the suspect was provided.

Earlier that morning, two 16-year-old girls approached two 28-year-old women, punched them and took a cell phone and a purse, according to a police report.

The incident happened around 1:30 a.m. at the corner of 17th and Mission. After the robbery, the suspects took off in a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage, according to police. They later found the suspects nearby and arrested them.
