According to the 2009-2010 Parks Annual Report from the City Services Auditor, Dolores Park has gone from tenth-lowest-ranked in 2008-2009 to third-lowest-ranked park in the city.
What’s to blame? Because of its popularity, Dolores Park faces excessive graffiti and an “industrial size trash problem,” according to the park’s supervisor.
The park lawn’s irrigation problems and aged infrastructure are also accountable.
What’s more, old bathrooms and trails have brought down the park’s overall scores year after year.
In 2008, the park received $13.2 million in capital improvement grants, which will go toward new restrooms and a renovation of existing irrigation systems, among other initiatives.
Plans to renovate the park are scheduled to be completed in the 2012-2013 year.
