A new café is coming to the Mission, at 18th and York Streets.

The store owner could not be contacted, but staff at the Department of Public Works told Mission Local that Café Taboo would open in a couple of weeks.

It will be in the spot where the low-Yelp-rated New York Street Café once stood.

It sounds like patrons will be able to sit outside; DPW recently approved the owner’s application to put five tables and ten chairs on the sidewalk.

This is good news for people employed in the area, who currently have very limited choices for lunch — such as the Meraki folks, who recently moved to Alabama Street.

Smoking Lounge Sidewalk Permit on Hold

Plans by the owner of OZ Smoking Lounge to put a chair and two tables on the sidewalk in front of the 22nd Street business could go up in smoke.

The application is still under review by the hearing officer. Apparently the owner failed to show up at a hearing on Tuesday to address neighbors’ concerns about the smoke that would be generated by customers at the outdoor tables.
