This just in: Someone’s lighting discarded Christmas trees on fire! See above.(Thanks periqueblend) Is the port-a-potty arsonist getting seasonal on us?
The underground farmer’s market is going private the SF Weekly reports. The organizers were warned by the health department that they could not have such an event open to the public.
One possibility for the event is at CELLspace on Jan. 28, and people will have to sign up for “membership.” Hence the non-public part.
More food: 7×7 reports on a new restaurant where Alhambra meat market once stood at 24th and Folsom.
The restaurant name will be Local: Mission Eatery and was conceived by Yaron Milgrom-Elcott, who is currently pursuing a doctorate in Medieval Jewish Mysticism, and Jake Des Voignes, formerly of Fish and Far.
Here is what the owners have to say about it: “During the day, the shop will sell what Milgrom-Elcott describes as “high-concept” sandwiches and baked goods, which you can eat there or take it to-go. In addition, there will be evening classes, taught by a rotating roster of food professionals.”
And while some are coming in to the neighborhood, others are leaving.
The Chronicle reports that Slanted Door owner Charles Phan, who grew up in the Mission and left three empty storefronts on Valencia Street, is having a lot success in Pacific Heights with his new restaurant.
I never ate at the Slanted Door, but I think I will stick with the $4.50 burritos at El Herradero.
Sidenote: While on my way there last night I noticed that the light on 18th and Folsom was not changing. So I waited. And waited for ten minutes until I gave up.
Some were just running red lights and pedestrians were running for it. When I came back it seemed all right, but it was really odd why it wouldn’t change.
