If you are one of the 700,000 that ride Muni daily than this is for you: Today, mayoral candidate Bevan Dufty will be having meetings at 11:00 a.m. in room 263 at City Hall regarding crime in the city’s public transportation system.
One of the three troubled lines is our very own 14 Mission. The other lines are the 38 Geary and the 9 San Bruno. In attendance will be Muni’s Police Chief John Murphy who wants to have more sting operations like the one earlier this month.
I have never been one of the 10 percent who has evaded bus fare, but I have been a victim of graffiti while riding Muni. Sometime last year while I was asleep someone spray painted my hair. I could not figure out what gang or tagger was responsible.
Speaking of crime, Germán Fernández, of Daly City was found dead near Cesar Chavez and Bryant Street. Reporters Rosa Ramirez and Bridget Huber have the whole story here.
Today is the 11th day of waiting for Judge Peter Busch to make a decision on lifting the bike injunction, which has stopped the building of any new bike lanes since June 2006. Busch received the recommendations on Nov. 12 from the city and Rob Anderson and company about how to lift the injunction.
The city argues that he should lift the injunction because they can’t wait until the case goes to court sometime in March of 2010. They say they have already done the environmental impact report that Anderson and company asked for. Meanwhile, cyclists ride in danger.
Anderson and lawyer say that: first, the environmental report is “inadequate.” Second, if the injunction is lifted the city would be allowed to move forward with their bike plan and their lawsuit would become moot.
Late last month when the case had a hearing, Busch showed he is ready to lift it, but with conditions that the city’s action is “reversible.”
Mr. Busch we are waiting.
And speaking of injunctions, Norteño gang members served with an injunction can “opt out.” According to the city attorney’s office, to opt out the person has to give information that shows they are not an active gang member and are not participating in any of the activities prohibited by the gang injunction, which include: intimidation and graffiti.

Currently, those served with a gang injunction cannot do certain activities like some of the ones listed above in the following areas:
Hm. Which makes me wonder why only the Norteños? Why not the Sureños or the Mara Salvatrucha? According to the city attorney’s website they choose five gangs because they have “long plagued three (Bayview, Mission, Western Addition) of San Francisco’s most violence-prone neighborhoods.”
I recently spoke to a cop and he said that the Sureños are being even “less picky” on their recruitment and have a high percentage of foreign-born members.

as a former norteno gang member let me tell u that what u need to focus on is the night life in the mission district and have more police presence on 24th st, 18 and mission and 21st specially on the main corners of these streets cause when gang members see cops on corners they give it a real though to putting in work (comitting crimes) and keep a close eyes on the parks themselves cops know but they seen to look the other way talk to the gang leaders themselves

Did you mean the 38 Geary? Also the usual convention for naming Muni buses is to state the number first, and the word second.
