ABOUT UNDERGROUND SOUND
When’s the last time a new music series opened in San Francisco? How about a music series devoted to popular music? And rock. And World and classical music, individuals, ensembles, acoustic, electric, though mostly acoustic cause the venue–a theater–can only accommodate 60 people. And all 60 of them are sitting in movie theater-type seats on banked rows. Underground Sound does not serve alcohol or cappuccinos or much of anything. Except first rate music, performed under nearly ideal conditions. It’s no surprise that Underground Sound is a favorite for both audiences and musicians. And it’s just getting started.
AMY X NEUBURG
w/Moe! Staiano
Amy will be performing her irreverent, genre-bending songs and stories for voice, electronics and percussion. She combines a 4-octave vocal range, evocative and often humorous lyrics, thick layers of live vocal looping, and surprising sonic juxtapositions to create little musical journeys that are at once complex, funny and passionate. Joining Amy will be the inimitable Moe! Staiano on percussion. The two recently took over the huge, multi-tiered Berkeley Art Museum with their percussive antics. Now they’re taking their show to the intimate confines of Stage Werx Theatre. This is a rare opportunity to see two superb artists up close.
TOM SWAY
w/Bruce Pachtman and Phil Casey
Stolen cars, high school football stadiums, ghost hospitals, greasy griddles and onerous trolls populate Tom’s revealing, passionate and often very funny songs. With a staggering range of melodic idioms in his repertoire, superlative storytelling skills and what’s referred to in the music world as “an authentic voice” it’s no surprise that Tom has attracted a devoted following. Bruce Pachtman, (drums) and Phil Casey (piano) accompany Tom.
