SUMMARY:Manny’s: Joe (Mission Local) & Joe (SF Standard) Discuss the Results of the Primary
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a riveting discussion with renowned journalists Joe Eskenazi (Mission Local) and Joe Fitzgerald Rodriguez (SF Standard) for a deep review of the state of politics today. Joe and Joe will hit the results of the June Primary. What does this mean for the various elections going into November? What happened with the ballot measures? Any big surprises or things to keep an eye on? Nothing is off limits with these two! \n____________________ \nJoe Fitzgerald Rodriguez is a politics reporter for The Standard. He was raised in San Francisco and has spent his career in his beloved\, foggy\, city by the bay. Joe is a proud alum of City College of San Francisco and San Francisco State University. He most recently wrote for KQED’s politics team\, and previously penned a local political column for the San Francisco Examiner. Joe began reporting at 12-years-old\, when he grilled former mayor Willie Brown for the Marina Middle School newspaper\, The Penguin Press. When not reporting\, Joe enjoys playing retro video games and is a die-hard Trekkie. \n____________________ \nJoe Eskenazi was born in San Francisco\, raised in the Bay Area\, and attended UC Berkeley. He never left. “Your humble narrator” was a writer and columnist for SF Weekly from 2007 to 2015\, and a senior editor at San Francisco Magazine from 2015 to 2017. You may also have read his work in the Guardian (U.S. and U.K.); San Francisco Public Press; San Francisco Chronicle; San Francisco Examiner; Dallas Morning News; and elsewhere. He resides in the Excelsior with his wife and three (!) kids\, 4.3 miles from his birthplace and 5\,474 from hers. SUMMARY:Public Works: Roll Up Gallery presents: "Shaped Bodies" by Ami Sepahpur
DESCRIPTION:Roll Up Gallery presents: “Shaped Bodies” by Ami Sepahpur \nThursday\, June 11th\, 7pm – 9pm \nRoll Up Gallery / 21+ / Limited Capacity \nIn addition to online RSVPs\, tickets will also be available at the door night of. \nPublic Works and The Roll Up Gallery Present \n“Shaped Bodies” by Ami Sepahpur \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nAmi Sepahpur (pronounced “Ami\,” rhyming with “tsunami”) is an Iranian artist currently based in San Francisco. She holds a BA in Studio Art and an MFA in Animation and VFX with an emphasis in 3D modeling from Academy of Art University. She moved to San Francisco to study 3D modeling\, but later found herself returning to traditional mediums like drawing and painting. Her background in 3D and anatomy continues to shape her approach to the human form through weight\, structure\, and volume. Her work focuses on distorted female figures\, exaggerated anatomy\, flesh\, folds\, and imperfect forms. Growing up in a restrictive environment influenced the way she views the body\, nudity\, and self-expression. In her work\, the body is presented as visible\, exposed\, awkward\, and real rather than hidden or idealized. Using acrylic paint\, colored pencil\, and expressive line work\, she pushes and reshapes anatomy to create figures that feel both grotesque and intimate.

Even in the midst of this tragedy\, however\, his wonderful sense of the comedy of life does not desert him (how much should he spend on the gun?)\, indeed serves him insidiously well as a buffer against the grim reality of his intention. Copeland hopes this very personal\, and ultimately redemptive\, story will reach people who struggle with depression—often called the last stigmatized disease—as well as their families and loved ones. Interspersed with interviews with other sufferers\, the play\, like so many Marsh stories\, also offers outsiders an insider’s view\, thereby expanding our understanding and\, hopefully\, our humanity. As critic Sam Hurwitt put it in The Idiolect: “It’s a play I’d strongly recommend to anyone who is now or has ever been depressed or who knows someone in that situation. But honestly\, it’s such a strong piece that I’d recommend it just as heartily to anyone who’s ever been human.”

SUMMARY:Peacock Lounge: Bob Ostertag\, Antimatter & Jacob Felix Heule\, Philip Perkins\, Anti-Ear
DESCRIPTION:All-ages\, $5-$15 notaflof \nBob Ostertag\nA criminally-rare live set from San Francisco’s very own brigand of sound captured by handmade and virtual synths\, samplers and a multivalent mind. Whether synthesized or sourced from across oceans\, Ostertag churns sound in an ocean of acid intellect. His live performances come at you fast\, well honed from a lifetime of improvisation (alongside Frith\, Minton\, Zorn and later Otomo Yoshide and Justin Vivian Bond) tracing the arc and velocity of a legendary artist. You have to plumb his earliest explorations on Buchla and Serge synths (as Rrose did on the recent “Surgeon General” release) to fully appreciate his expansive sensibilities. Wresting video game sound on his album “w00t”\, he uncorks all hell in response to hell of actual war in Lebanon. Ostertag’s activism is inseparable from his aesthetic and the more you prime your mind by reading his concise and helpul prose\, the less likely you’ll be whiplashed once his music ensnares you. Hopefully copies of “Sex Science Self” “Encounters with Men” and “Creative Life” will be alongside his music on the merch table.\nhttps://bobostertag.bandcamp.com/music \nAntimatter & Jacob Felix Heule\nHeule performs a sonic anti-aliasing in real time through micro percussion and electronics that must be heard as closely as possible to be believed whereas Antimatter summons sound from way down the block\, a seeming far off source captured through minimal materialism revealing flow variances all the way to the PG&E substation where magnets lasso electrons and steer them into the room. Entangling the micro and macro requires two master practicioners of sound synthesis such as we have here\, in perfect alignment. If that sounds like a lot to perceive\, consider the millions of years that shaped your anatomy to do precisely that\, then park your apparatus in the front row. \n\nPhilip Perkins\nA member of The Residents’ performance ensemble during the legendary Mole Show era\, Perkins was mentored by “Blue” Gene Tyranny and would go on to release more than twenty albums of his own including “King of the World”\, “Drive Time” and “Gang of 2” with Scott Fraser. With an ear as broad as it is precisely focused\, he coined the term “environmental observations” and became widely sought for ballet\, opera\, film\, music engineering\, recording outside the studio\, editing\, and mastering work. Yet chances to hear his most personal solo work performed live have been exceedingly rare. This is music requiring ready and mindful listeners. To sit in his audience is to drop out of your familiar attentions into another register of time itself. Just you wait and see if that isn’t so\, when Philip Perkins transforms the Peacock Lounge and you along with it.\nhttp://www.philper.com/ \nAnti-Ear\nIt’s Spring again\, when inmates of the Edible Bird Ranch ‘scape back from whence they flappered. Anti-Ear is right this very minute corkscrewing toward our Peacocked chickencoup for a hard deck-landing. Master of sound and fury\, Tyler Harwood is the notorious polymath behind the legendary labels Bent Over Cowboy and Planetary Magnetics. Prolific\, spontaneous\, unflappable until his arms start flapping\, his music projects Brown Whornet\, Chablis\, Neung Phak\, Tarantism\, and Zebra Secrets are the stuff of epic oft-repeated noise lore. Tonight\, our species having flown one more coup-d’etat must hatch again liplessly from the dark downy bosom of his synth\, if ever we hope to hear beyond life’s flappings.\nhttp://www.stin-g.com/anti-ear.htm | https://youtube.com/watch?v=dTZMHDCISS8

SUMMARY:Brava Theater: Rhodessa Jones returns to the Stage\, “Just Outside of Babylon\, There Is a Rude Paradise”
DESCRIPTION:Brava Presents\nA Theatrical Homecoming: Rhodessa Jones Returns to the Stage\, “Just Outside of Babylon\, There Is a Rude Paradise” \nJune 12-13\, 2026 \nJune 12\, 2026 : A Conversation with Rhodessa Jones and Joanna Haigood \nJune 13\, 2026: Rhodessa Jones Featuring The Medea Project\nFri-Sat @ 7pm\nBrava Mainstage \nLegendary San Francisco artist\, activist\, and storyteller Rhodessa Jones — creator and director of The MEDEA Project: Theatre for Incarcerated Women — returns to the stage this summer with “Just Outside of Babylon\, There Is a Rude Paradise: A Celebration of Love and a Love Letter to San Francisco.” The intimate\, two-night engagement will be performed Friday\, June 12\, and on Saturday\, June 13\, 2026\, featuring Rhodessa’s award-winning Medea Project: Theatre for Incarcerated Women/HIV Circle. Both shows will be at 7:00 PM at BRAVA Theater Center\, 2781 24th Street\, in the heart of the Mission District. \nPresented by Rhodessa Jones Productions with sponsorship and theatrical partnership from BRAVA! For Women in the Arts\, the evening is an offering of remembrance\, storytelling\, and a moment with one of the city’s most singular voices. For an artist whose life’s work has been devoted to lifting the stories of the unheard\, “Just Outside of Babylon” is both reflection and reckoning — a love letter to the San Francisco that shaped her\, and to the people\, places\, and movements that kept her making art inside jails\, on streets\, in living rooms\, and on the world’s great stages for nearly four decades. \nFor longtime followers of Rhodessa’s work\, this engagement marks an especially meaningful moment: it is expected to be her final press-promoted theatrical presentation for some time. Audiences are invited to attend a live interview with Johanna Haigood\, a well-known aerialist and choreographer in San Francisco\, California. \nThe Rhodessa Festival is funded by the San Francisco Arts Commission’s Legacy Artists Grant and Artist Impact Endowment\, the Zellerbach Family Fund\, the Fleishhacker Foundation and Brava! for Women in the Arts.

SUMMARY:Victoria Theatre: Bard Theatre presents BACCHAE
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL EVENTS: \nJune 12th (Opening Night) – Join us for a special talkback after the show with translator Dr. Emily Wilson! (Included in ticket price). \nJune 13th – Join us for Community Night with specially priced discount tickets! \nThe BACCHAE is an electrifying Greek tragedy by Euripides\, which originally premiered shortly after his death in 405 B.C.E. The play centers around the proud and charismatic god of wine\, Dionysus\, and his reverent group of followers: the Bacchants. Threatened by their disregard for societal norms and gender roles\, the king of Thebes denies Dionysus’s godhood and seeks to destroy the Bacchants’ freedom and sacred\, ecstatic rituals. In return\, Dionysus shows him the bloody truth of what it means to deny the identity of a god. \nThis dance-forward\, world premiere performance of acclaimed classicist Dr. Emily Wilson’s vibrant translation focuses on themes of gender non-conformity\, bodily autonomy\, identity\, and community. So… “you would like to see what may disgust you?” \nWritten by Euripides / Translated by Dr. Emily Wilson\nAdapted by E.M. Ervolina & Edward Paddock\nChoreographed by Edward Paddock\nDirected by E.M. Ervolina

SUMMARY:Gray Area Grand Theater: Visible Cloaks: Paradessence
DESCRIPTION:Paradessence\, Visible Cloaks’ third full-length\, is a work of emergence and illusion. The album’s fourteen songs shift\, heave\, and shimmer against a faintly luminous backdrop of night\, a cavernous space shaped by sparse hyperreal representations of the natural world. The arrangements are simultaneously grandiose and fragile\, both an inversion and culmination of what came before and as adventurous as anything they’ve produced so far. \nOpening the evening is San Francisco Bay Area based composer and performer Madalyn Merkey\, whose recent work observes the principles of acoustic instruments and material spaces to design real-time soundsynthesis programs for site-specific performances.

SUMMARY:Garden for the Environment: Growing a Garden: Where to Start Workshops 2026
DESCRIPTION:Do you have a space that you would like to turn into a garden\, but don’t know where to start? This class is perfect for beginner gardeners or anyone looking for a refresher. We will guide you through the steps to transform your yard into a beautiful garden\, including maintenance tips and where to find support and resources. We will also include information and advice on container gardening. This workshop will focus on working with nature\, observing your space\, and demystifying San Francisco’s unique microclimate. With your newfound knowledge\, you’ll be able to create a manageable garden that aligns with the space you have. Bring your questions! \nPlease note that this workshop focuses on perennial plant gardening\, NOT edible food growing. She has been teaching at Garden for the Environment since 1998\, first as a Get Up! intern\, and then as a staff member until 2003. She runs Carey Craddock Gardens where she specializes in ecological garden design and growing food. \nNo walk-up registration permitted for this course.

SUMMARY:18 Reasons: Japanese Bento Making - Online
DESCRIPTION:Camila just returned from a trip to Japan and is ready to cook with you! This class is inspired by Camila’s love for the Japanese bento\, a meal packed in a box. What is the difference between bento and just any packed lunch? The extra care that goes into the preparation. Bento meals feature balance as their main attribute\, so they satisfy not only the body but also the eye and the soul. Balance is present in Japanese meals\, usually around the number 5: colors (and thus nutrients)\, preparation techniques\, and flavors. \nCamila has been traveling yearly to Japan since 2017\, introducing and guiding small groups of Americans to the culture through its cuisine and crafts. She has learned much of her culinary knowledge from Eiko-san\, a wise woman in her 70s from a humble Kyoto neighborhood\, and the neighborhood community of women who gather to celebrate each of Camila’s visits. \nJoin Chef Camila as she streams from her home kitchen in Barcelona. Registrants will have access to a high-quality class video to rewatch as many times as they wish! Click here to see a sample video of what to expect in class. \nMENU \nChicken Teriyaki (or Shrimp or Tofu) \nTamagoyaki – Rolled Omelet \nQuick Pickled Cucumbers \nMiso-Glazed Eggplant \nJapanese Rice

The Mission District born and bred Loco Bloco brings their high energy AfroBrazilian drum and dance ensemble to Dance Mission Theater. Medicine for Nightmares Bookstore hosts a reading and book release celebration of queer poetics with Lourdes Figueroa. The young trans artists of color from Ancestral Dream Collective will showcase their linocut prints at Artillery AG Studio. Made in the City will host the popular Stoop Sessions music collective. There’s cumbia from Malagreña and Chicano country-folk music from Josiah Flores at Accion Latina\, and Mariachi CMC performs outside in front of Temo’s Cafe. As always Paseo Artistico is family friendly and free for the entire community. \nFull festival runs 12–8pm. Learn more and see the full schedule at paseoartistico.org

SUMMARY:Z Space: Becoming a Man
DESCRIPTION:Written by P. Carl\nDirected by Lyam B. Gabel \nMay 28 – June 14\, 2026\nZ Space’s Steindler Stage \nFor 50 years\, P. Carl lived as a girl and then a queer woman\, building a career and a loving marriage while waiting to realize himself in full. When he decides to affirm his gender\, his transition puts everything—family\, career\, friendships—at stake. A stage production based on the memoir\, Becoming a Man is a poignant and honest story about the courage and community it takes to become one’s true self and poses the question: “When we change\, can the people we love come with us?” Following a world premiere production at American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) at Harvard University\, P. Carl’s acclaimed story comes to life in its West Coast premiere at Z Space. \nGenerously funded in part by Battery Powered\, The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation\, The Sam Mazza Foundation\, and The Zellerbach Family Foundation.
