SAN FRANCISCO, CA— Z Space presents recent work by San Francisco based photographer Jessica Skloven. Influenced by the distinct landscape of the Bay Area, Skloven’s abstract-based work explores the limits of photographic representation.

Her color photographs explore how the reduction of visual information can result in an openness of other kinds of perception. The elemental and material nature of photography—its play with surface and depth, filtered light producing color, and the slow mechanics of the analog—are inherent to her process. Skloven’s photographs unveil an abstract realm, destabilizing the sense of reality and space that photographs often inhabit. The work is concerned with delaying cognition, of discerning a time outside of time.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

She received her MFA at the California College of the Arts in 2008, and has taught Photography in both the Undergraduate and Pre-College programs.
