ICEE HOT brings Barcelona’s man of the moment, John Talabot, to Public Works for his San Francisco debut. Coming hot on the heels of his much lauded debut album, “ƒIN,” John Talabot will be blessing the decks with his trademark sound before embarking on tour with The xx in October. John Talabot’s releases on Permanent Vacation and his own Barcelona-based imprint, Hivern Discs, have quickly set the mark for his unparalleled music: raw, loopy, heavy on the kick drum, sample based, moderate on the tempo, distorted on the drums and light years away from the clean and ever revolving house sound of today. This unique style which also blends influences from afro beat, Detroit techno, Chicago house and cosmic disco and even Northern soul, immediately turned some heads around.
While staying true to his sound, John Talabot has nevertheless shown a constant evolution as a producer since his first release. He has traced a solid musical path that has turned him into one of the big references of European House and has made him also a highly in demand Remixer (for the likes of The xx, Francesco Tristano’s “Aufgang” project, Shit Robot on DFA, Thaiti 80, Joakim or Teengirl Fantasy to name just a few).
Joining John Talabot will be the Bay Area’s own Bobby Browser. Bobby’s all-hardware Live PAs have garnered much attention for a while now, and his excellent debut, “Just Browsing,” on 100% Silk has further solidified his status as a mad genius.
In typical ICEE HOT fashion, the party will also include Ghosts On Tape, Shawn Reynaldo, and Rollie Fingers to keep things moving and get you loose. Of all the Thursdays out there, this is one you cannot miss.
