DESCRIPTION:Written by P. Carl\nDirected by Lyam B. Gabel \nMay 28 – June 14\, 2026\nZ Space’s Steindler Stage \nFor 50 years\, P. Carl lived as a girl and then a queer woman\, building a career and a loving marriage while waiting to realize himself in full. Carl’s acclaimed story comes to life in its West Coast premiere at Z Space. \nGenerously funded in part by Battery Powered\, The Sheri and Les Biller Family Foundation\, The Sam Mazza Foundation\, and The Zellerbach Family Foundation.

SUMMARY:Victoria Theatre: Bard Theatre presents BACCHAE
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL EVENTS: \nJune 12th (Opening Night) – Join us for a special talkback after the show with translator Dr. Emily Wilson! (Included in ticket price). \nJune 13th – Join us for Community Night with specially priced discount tickets! \nThe BACCHAE is an electrifying Greek tragedy by Euripides\, which originally premiered shortly after his death in 405 B.C.E. The play centers around the proud and charismatic god of wine\, Dionysus\, and his reverent group of followers: the Bacchants. Threatened by their disregard for societal norms and gender roles\, the king of Thebes denies Dionysus’s godhood and seeks to destroy the Bacchants’ freedom and sacred\, ecstatic rituals. In return\, Dionysus shows him the bloody truth of what it means to deny the identity of a god. \nThis dance-forward\, world premiere performance of acclaimed classicist Dr. Emily Wilson’s vibrant translation focuses on themes of gender non-conformity\, bodily autonomy\, identity\, and community. So… “you would like to see what may disgust you?” \nWritten by Euripides / Translated by Dr. Emily Wilson\nAdapted by E.M. Ervolina & Edward Paddock\nChoreographed by Edward Paddock\nDirected by E.M. Ervolina

Do you have an inter-disciplinary interest addressing global challenges and in reaching a future fit for our future selves? Do you want to de-risk hypothetical ways to change the world in real time together? Do you think about how impact investing can scale? Are you an social innovator? Are you a solar punk? Are you a systems change leader? Are you a multidisciplinary agent of change? Come join our conversation while hiking.\nHiking is good at creating rhythms of thought\, pace of mind\, and a social cadence for collaborative creativity and improvisational thought. Its also essential to ensure your thinking is cumulative with other disciplines and patterns of understanding.\nSunday June 14th hike please meet at 3pm. Join us for our hike by meeting at the Legion of Honor steps. We will have a good hike. Please let us know if you will be joining so that we know to look out for you.

SUMMARY:Dance Mission Theater: Brown Thumbs: Exploring Punjabi x Mexican Land Solidarity
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: https://www.tixtree.com/e/brown-thumbs-exploring-punjabi-x-mexican-land-solidarity-bcedb4d40bac \nHamesha Project & Dilpreet Anand present an event event will be exploring the intertwined histories of Punjabi and Mexican immigrants in California. \nBrown Thumbs will be showcasing the ways that relationship to land manifests in the artistic and sociocultural identities of Punjabi and Mexican communities\, how this common ground has historically created solidarity between these cultures\, and how this looks today. Through a curated panel\, performances\, and a community art activation we seek to shed light on how and why our communities have come together in California\, and how we can honor these parallels by building collective power as a means to resist division and threats to safety in contemporary times. \nBrown Thumbs is a platform to share the overlapping histories of Punjabi and Mexican ancestors. Sharing these stories can inform our efforts to cultivate space for healing and amplify intersections that have been historically erased. In contemporary times we have found continued solidarity amongst these two communities as both have been severely impacted by ICE raids. Brown Thumbs is a call to action\, an effort to build on common ground through shared struggle\, and support for one another as our immigrant families face detention and deportation. Our event honors this continuum of solidarity by creating space for art and healing as we engage in this struggle together. Through celebrating land\, labors of love\, and cross-cultural connection\, Brown Thumbs honors the earth as a site of connection and resistance. Proceeds from this event will be split between covering event costs and towards mutual aid for families impacted by ICE.

SUMMARY:Manny’s: How Progressive and Populist Media is Shifting the Democratic Party
DESCRIPTION:Explore the impact of progressive media on the future of the Democratic Party with More Perfect Union and Inequality Media Civic Action! \nThe future of the Democratic Party is uncertain. Some\, like Bernie or Mamdani\, are pushing further left into populist messaging\, whereas others are making sure we don’t stray too far from the center. Join us for this evening with the leaders of two of the most influential progressive media groups in the nation right now. \nInequality Media Civic Action was founded in 2018 by former Secretary of Labor and famous economist Robert Reich. More Perfect Union was founded in 2021 by Bernie Sanders’s Campaign Manager Faiz Shakir and Communications Director Josh Miller-Lewis. Both have been instrumental in different ways towards expanding progressive and populist messaging ever since. So let’s explore together what the real-world impact has been of their organizations\, how they compete with the corporate media\, and what their long-term goals are. \n_____________________________ \nJosh Miller-Lewis co-founded More Perfect Union in 2021 and serves as Editor-In-Chief\, managing the newsroom. Under Josh’s leadership\, More Perfect Union has garnered over 2 billion video views and is now the fastest growing news channel on YouTube. Under his leadership MPU has been nominated for 10 Emmy’s and won one Emmy\, two Webby’s and two Sidney Hillman awards. Prior to co-founding More Perfect Union\, Josh served as Senator Bernie Sanders’ Communications Director and as Creative Director for Bernie 2020\, managing the first in-house TV & digital ad production team on a presidential campaign. \n_____________________________ \nHeather Kinlaw Lofthouse is the Executive Director of Inequality Media Civic Action and the Executive Producer of the documentary The Last Class. She is also the co-host of “The Coffee Klatch\,” a conversational podcast about the news of the week\, with her longtime collaborator Robert Reich. She has held leadership roles at universities and non-profit organizations in the fields of media\, education\, and global health.

SUMMARY:Manny’s: War in Iran (Part 3/3): What's Next?
DESCRIPTION:Join nuclear security and nonproliferation expert professor Scott Sagan (Stanford) to understand where this war is going next. \nIn the first event\, Professor Daniel Sargent (UC Berkeley) helped us understand the history of U.S.-Iran relations that got us to this point. In the second event\, Professor Stephen Zunes (USF) helped us connect that history to the present. \nFinally\, in our last event\, Professor Scott Sagan (Stanford) will show us what is next. As a nuclear security and nonproliferation expert\, Prof. Sagan will guide us through the decisions being made by the U.S. and Iran in the present day and help us understand what we can expect next in this crazy war. We will discuss the nuclear program\, military actions\, and the desired outcomes of the U.S. and Iran. \n_________________________________ \nScott D. Sagan is Co-Director and Senior Fellow at the Center for International Security and Cooperation\, the Caroline S.G. Munro Professor of Political Science\, and the Bass University Fellow in Undergraduate Education at Stanford University. He is the co-editor of Insider Threats (Cornell University Press\, 2017) with Matthew Bunn; and co-editor of The Fragile Balance of Terror (Cornell University Press\, 2022) with Vipin Narang. Sagan was also the guest editor of a two-volume special issue of Daedalus: Ethics\, Technology\, and War (Fall 2016) and The Changing Rules of War (Winter 2017). \nRecent publications include “Kettles of Hawks: Public Opinion on the Nuclear Taboo and Noncombatant Immunity in the United States\, United Kingdom\, France\, and Israel”\, with Janina Dill and Benjamin A.
Ervolina

What’s currently on\, and in\, his mind are the related subjects of fascism and depression. For over seven months last year\, he was mired in a deep depression. At the same time\, our country had begun rapidly descending into fascism. So Josh found himself in a Resistance on at least two levels: against MAGA’s depredations\, and against attacks from within his own psyche. And the struggle continues! Can he help save our democracy even as he tries to pull himself together? Will he have to perform these improvs from a psychiatrist’s couch? What Is To Be Done? is a work in (and of) progress. \nArtist Biography\nJosh Kornbluth (Playwright & Performer) has been creating and performing autobiographical monologues for over three decades. He also has written and starred in two feature films\, directed by his brother Jacob Kornbluth: Haiku Tunnel and Love & Taxes. For two years he hosted his own interview program on KQED-TV in San Francisco\, cleverly titled The Josh Kornbluth Show. His “Citizen Brain” videos (citizenbrain.org) have been viewed by over half a million people. Josh is starring in an upcoming feature film called Morons. He has a Substack called “But Not Enough About Me” (https://joshkornbluth.substack.com/)\, which you can subscribe to for free. You can also find him at joshkornbluth.com. Josh lives in Berkeley with his wife and son.

SUMMARY:Manny’s: Monthly Chocolate Club at Manny's - Let's Explore Chocolate
DESCRIPTION:Monthly discussions exploring and enjoying the wonders of chocolate! Bring curiosity and a chocolate to share! \nVenture with us into this endless and delicious topic. \nEach club session is a round table discussion in the Living Room\, at the back tables. \nWhat you bring to the conversation is curiosity and chocolate to share. Your contribution may be a bar or a confection\, a nostalgic favorite\, a sample of a rare cacao\, or even something you dislike and want to learn more about. Everyone please bring something to contribute to this beautiful community! \nHere are a few infrequently asked questions about chocolate: \n What actually is chocolate?\n Why does chocolate resonate so vividly with us in body\, mind\, and spirit?\n Cacao is called the “Food of the Gods” and is highly nutritious. What is science showing us about phytonutrients that benefit our health and well-being?\n How might we think about chocolate in contemporary culture and our shared human history? The oldest confirmed evidence of cacao use by our ancestors is approximately 5\,000 years ago. Our history and future with chocolate are worth discussing.\n We have a complex language for discussing wine—why not cacao and chocolate? \nWho is David? \nDavid has fifteen years of professional experience and a lifetime of enthusiasm for chocolate. As a chocolatier\, he makes delightful creations with amazing chocolate in micro-batches and offers them online and at farmers markets. His career in chocolate is rooted in pastry and chocolate production. Working with farmers\, researchers\, chocolate makers\, chefs\, and fellow chocolatiers\, he continually explores and enjoys the culture of chocolate. \nSpace is limited. Please reserve a seat at the table. \nMore information about David and chocolate can be found on his website: https://www.duchocolatier.com/
