February 23 to March 31, 2013 at ArtZone 461 Gallery
ArtZone 461 Gallery is pleased to announce a show of recent paintings by E. Dale Erickson; it is his second solo show with the Gallery in the larger, main space.
Dale Erickson has been making art for nearly 50 years and over time he has experimented with and created examples of several movements including pop art, abstraction, conceptual and surreal. These have mostly been investigational ventures while he has remained committed to realist painting throughout his entire career. He is adept with figures and portraits, landscapes and still lifes as well as interiors and having an output of occasional surprises.
The works in this show clearly reveal a change in palette and approach to the landscape: The colors are livelier and lighter and the artist introduces new sizes and landscape subjects. Formerly, he usually worked in square or horizontal formats. This show introduces both vertical landscapes and seascapes and the occasional elongated land or seascape.
Dale Erickson is the kind of artist driven to create, though he has traditionally shown little concern for recognition or commercial achievement. Many historic artists (i.e. Van Gogh) never achieved commercial success in their lifetime. Recently, Erickson has developed a stronger interest in having his works shown to a wider audience and the commercial success that comes with wider exposure. Having encouragement from ArtZone 461 Gallery and perhaps with a satisfaction realized through strong results from his first solo show, the artist appears ready for overdue recognition.
Erickson studied and received degrees from the Art Institute of Chicago and the San Francisco Art Institute. He continues painting and printmaking at his live-work space in San Francisco.
Opening Reception Saturday February 23, 5:00 – 8:00 pm
