From September 7, 8 at 8 p.m. and September 9 at 7 p.m. Berkeley-based performer Colin Epstein & Dance Mission Theater will be co-presenting the pilot season of “Constants & Variables” Sept 7-9 at San Francisco’s own Dance Mission Theater.
Nestled in the heart of the Mission District, this weekend’s launch production promises to showcase an exciting and eclectic evening of dance from some of the Bay Area’s most intriguing choreographers.
A self-curated, shared, by-invitation-only event, “Constants & Variables” was initially conceived in response to a number of regular showcases offered throughout the Bay Area on an annual or bi-annual basis. Epstein was immediately inspired to produce his own evening-length shared event so as to illuminate artists whose works he feels most personally drawn to. This level of appeal was based on a matrix of aspects that, in his opinion, make a dance worth watching more than once. The artists presented on this year’s pilot program, each of whom has surfaced on the local front over the past seven years, are known for boasting their own codified movement style through self-production, for developing strong performance elements and content in the construction of their individual works, and are established enough to have developed a consistent following in viewership via project-based shared events.
Seizing the opportunity to give back to a community that has continued to inspire the co-presenting artists for more than twenty years, it is with utmost delight, enthusiasm and passion that they are able to finally bring this event live to local audiences this fall.
