Good Morning Mission!

off the grid PANDA.

It is 7 a.m, 57° and headed to a cloudy 63°. Details for the next 10 days are here.

What a day it was yesterday, with all that Google I/O and various Google I/O protesting.

Looks like the in-progress, glistening, bejeweled tower of SoMa, the Transbay Center may open without a park.

In the Guardian’s Queer Issue, longtime housing rights activist Tommi Avicolli Mecca shares his feelings about the particular housing struggles of the queer community.

Speaking of the queer community, your link-bait. First, the thought-provocative question: is Pride just for white people? Then, the more appealing one: what does Pride look like all over the world?

Enjoy the day y’all.

As always, send tips to missionlocalATgmail.com.

I’ve no idea if Gay Pride is a white thing (the implication being that that somehow makes it bad or wrong?).

But it’s been the case for a while now that the Castro is the white’est neighborhood in the city. At over 90% white, it is more white than the Marina and some parts of Marin.

Now that the word “white” is perjorative, apparently, I’m sure that someone somewhere is horrified by that.

The good news if you buy that is that the Castro is also becoming less gay, and therefore less white. You can’t have it both ways, apparently.

We love our tribal classifications in San Francisco.

The Castro is becoming more straight but staying very white. It is becoming Noe Valley North.
