I know Carnaval season is here when I can hear people from Loco Bloco having drummers at practice at John O’Connell High School from my house.

This year, Carnaval will be celebrating its 36 anniversary with the World Cup as its central theme. The festival and parade will happen on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th. However, Carnaval has a lot more events going on before the big celebration.

Here’s one you can plan for: A pre-party at ChaCha’s on Wednesday 14th, starting at 6p.m. It’s a free admission event, and your purchases will go towards supporting Carnaval and its volunteers. There will be live music by Jorge Alabe and Samba Rio and the newly crowned Queen Valencia and King Delvis will be present. If you wish to volunteer at Carnaval, be sure to not miss this event, as you will be able to sign up once you are there.
